MARCView™ Download, Installation, and QuickStart
Welcome to MARCView!
Installation
-
Terminate MARCView if you have it running.
-
There is no need to uninstall earlier versions of MARCView if you install the new version to the same directory as the old one.
Starting with Release 3.12, the default installation folder is
C:\Program Files\Systems Planning\MARCView
If you are upgrading from Release 3.11 or earlier, and use double-clicking to open MARC files, we recommend overwriting the earlier installation in
C:\Program Files\MARCView
This is because a bug in Windows does not remove the information about the previous installation.
-
Double-click the downloaded installation file to install MARCView. Do not install MARCView to the same folder as MARConvert™.
Error opening file for writing
If you receive this message during installation, please check the following conditions:
-
Make sure there is space on the drive to which you installing MARCView.
-
Make sure you have "administrator privileges" on your computer, meaning that you are allowed to install new programs. If not, your IT department will have to perform the installation.
Network installation
If you purchased a site license, you may install MARCView on a network drive where anyone in your organization may use it (see the license for details and restrictions). However, each PC must have the file MARCView.ini in its Windows directory (normally "c:\windows" or "c:\winnt").
Upgrading
Use the same instructions as for Installation, above.
Running MARCView
To run MARCView, click the Windows Start button, go to Programs, then the MARCView group, then MARCView. When MARCView starts, click the "View" button to open and display a file of MARC records.
You can also set up MARCView so you can right-click on a file in Windows Explorer and open it in MARCView. See the Help file to see how to set up this feature.
We guarantee MARCView will display any file of true MARC21, UNIMARC, or MARCXML records -- or we fix it free.
Files in Installation Package
- MARCView.EXE and SP_MARC.DLL: the program
- README.TXT
- MV_LICENSE.RTF: the license agreement
- BRKRTEST.MRC: a file of MARC21 test records from the Library of Congress
- COLLECTION.XML: a file of MARCXML test records from the Library of Congress
Support
Please see the MARCView Support Page for information.
We have been told that MARCView is the only MARC record viewer in the world. We hope you like it. We always welcome suggestions for improvement.
Uninstalling
If you want to uninstall MARCView, including "Lite" versions, here's how:
- Release 3.8 or later: Run Add/Remove Programs from the
Windows Control Panel and remove "Systems Planning MARCView".
- Releases 3.0 through 3.7: Run Add/Remove Programs from the
Windows Control Panel and remove "MARCView".
- Releases before 3.0: Delete the MARCView directory.
Uninstalling will NOT remove the MARCView.ini file, so your
settings will be saved.
Thanks for using MARCView!
